Lizzo has landed on the title of her forthcoming fifth studio album.
On Monday (April 27), the pop musician celebrated her 38th birthday with an Instagram post announcing that Bitch would be the title of her new LP, scheduled to release on June 5.
In a press statement, Lizzo acknowledged “She’s a Bitch” rapper Missy Elliott and “Bitch” vocalist Meredith Brooks as influences behind her next album.
“Reclaiming the word Bitch is power - it’s taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence, and unapologetic self-love,” said the musician in a statement. “So many incredible women in music have used the word for positivity like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliott. It was only fitting to name my album Bitch because it has become my favorite word when using it on my own terms and because I am 100% that bitch!”
Bitch was previously titled Love In Real Life, also the title of Lizzo’s 2025 single, which dropped ahead of her third mixtape, My Face Hurts From Smiling. In January, the vocalist posted a Substack entry about becoming a “bitch” for her New Year’s Resolution after a troubling conversation with a person who voted for President Donald Trump.
"A Bitch’s prickly confidence shakes the core of evil," the artist wrote. "You can’t shame a Bitch by calling her bitch, because she knows she is. You cannot hurt Ms. Bitch anymore, she is impervious to words."
Along with the release of Bitch, Lizzo will make her acting debut as late rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Sister Rosetta Tharpe in a biopic for Amazon MGM Studios.
