Lizzo Wants AI-Generated Music to Come With Disclaimers: 'I Am Terrified'

The four-time Grammy winner said she's been "training" herself to watch out for AI for years so she doesn't "get scammed."

Lizzo has further shared her concerns about the future of artificial intelligence being utilized in music.

The pop star appeared on this week’s episode of Artist Friendly with Joel Madden, and agreed with Madden’s stance that AI-generated music should come with disclaimers. Despite the pushback of some music listeners and platforms like Bandcamp, artists like T.I. and Teddy Swims have embraced AI to enhance their production and songwriting.

“I am terrified by how quickly AI has progressed and like the quality of it,” Lizzo said.

The four-time Grammy winner added that she's been "training" herself since 2020 to notice whether content online is AI-generated after first seeing it on TikTok.

"I always do it because I was like, I cannot get scammed in 2030," she continued. "But now there are like TikTokers who are fully AI and I'm reading the comments and they're like, 'You're so beautiful sis. Send me the skincare
routine.' And I was like, it's computer-generated. It’s pixels."

Lizzo, who's been vocal about the overshadowing of the rollout for her upcoming album, Bitch, posted a Substack last December about not considering AI-prompted music to be authentic.

The musician also predicted a rise of augmented reality concerts, "chart dominance" from AI artists and "labels battling over who can get the first Grammy for their beloved prompts," a "reality" she refuses to "mourn."

"Time = Money. And art has now become indistinguishable from commerce in our post capitalist society," Lizzo wrote. "But I’m a big, juicy, emotionally unstable artist first and a businesswoman second. And I believe what I do will always have value."
