Rapper Lil Woody has claimed that he saw Derrick Groves in an Atlanta nightclub before the prison escapee was apprehended earlier this week.

Along with nine other men, the convict broke out of Orleans Parish Prison in May and ran to Atlanta, where he hid in a crawl space in the basement of a home. Groves was captured after a standoff at the residence on Wednesday (October 8) and arrested after spending five months at large, being the last escapee found.

On Friday (October 10), Woody posted an Instagram Story with a claim that he noticed a man in a local club who resembled Groves. The rapper said that he and his "buddy" were in the club with Groves before the manhunt came to an end. "And y'all know I play...I was like, 'Aye, there go that n***a that escaped from New Orleans prison right there.'"

While Woody's friend shooed off the assumption, the rapper was insistent that the man was Groves. "Then they had a $50,000 reward out for this n***a?" Woody continued, joking that Groves didn't have a "mission" since he was casually in public.

The manhunt concluded this week with Groves being escorted from the house where he was hiding out, as police resorted to gassing the residence multiple times before he surrendered. Before being taken away by authorities, Groves boldly blew a kiss to a Fox 5 Atlanta cameraperson who recorded the scene.

During Groves' extradition hearing in Fulton County Jail, the inmate requested to go back to Louisiana. Groves was serving time and awaiting his sentencing at Orleans Parish after he was accused of killing of two men during a 2018 Mardi Gras Day event in New Orleans’ Ninth Ward.
