Kendrick Lamar's debut live-action comedy as a producer has been pushed to a new release date three years after it was first announced.
As reported by Variety, the rapper's upcoming film, Whitney Springs, which is co-produced by South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, has been removed from the Paramount calendar. Directed by Parker, the movie, which was originally set for release on March 20, 2026, has been pushed back several times since being officially announced in early 2024. The film's synopsis remains under wraps.
A joint statement from Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free's pgLang and Stone and Parker's Park County said: "It’s true — we’re moving (again). We’re working hard at finishing the movie."
With Whitney Springs co-written by Parker, Stone and comedian Vernon Chatman, Free is also attached as producer along with Lamar.
"This script is one of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read and it’s certain to create some fireworks," stated Paramount CEO Brian Robbins in April 2024, per Variety.
Whitney Springs was initially planned to premiere on July 4 weekend last year, with Parker telling Bloomberg that it's a film that Lamar and Free were "very involved" in. "Every day they are working on it," Parker said.
As development of the movie continues, Kendrick Lamar, who holds 22 Grammy Awards, is currently up for nine nominations for the 2026 Grammys, including Album of the Year for GNX.
