Dame Dash recalled his late girlfriend, R&B vocalist Aaliyah, once being “up for grabs” between him and Jay-Z.
Dame, who co-founded defunct music label Roc-a-Fella Records with Jay-Z, appeared on the Wednesday (May 27) episode of The Jason Lee Show and discussed his relationship with Aaliyah, who tragically died in a plane crash in 2001. The singer was 22 years old.
Around the 1:29:00 mark of the interview below, Dame recalled him and Hov “trying to get at her.” “Aaliyah was like, she'll go to dinner with you, but she just wasn't going to fuck, but she'll let everybody get their shot,” Dame said. “So a lot of people were really in love with her.”
Dame then brought up an all-white party that Aaliyah attended on July 4, 2000, which was hosted by Diddy. Also in attendance were Dame and Jay-Z.
“So me and Jay, we’re both throwing in our bid,” he explained. “Until someone scores, it’s on.”
“And I was just on fire. I was just funny and everything was landing,” Dame continued. “I didn't know I was going to fall in love. I just wanted to smash.”
Dame alleged that Jay-Z posed closely to Aaliyah in pictures at the event to “make it look like he was fucking with her,” although Dame knew that he was “going home with her.”
Elsewhere, he seemingly alleged that he and Aaliyah hooked up at the event, which didn’t receive a good reaction from Hov. Last year, Dame was a guest on podcast POV, where he insisted that Jay-Z didn’t date Aaliyah, although both men pursued her. “As a man, I’m never, ever, ever wifing a girl that any of my friends smashed. It’s not happening,” Dame said.
