ASAP Rocky Jumping to Hug Rihanna After Verdict Sparks Comparison to Las Vegas Man Leaping at Judge

The rapper previously declined a plea deal of 180 days in jail.

ASAP Rocky's month-long gun assault trial ended with a not guilty verdict. On Tuesday afternoon (February 18), the jury reached a decision on two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm.

Rocky, visibly excited about the ruling in his favor, jumped toward his mother and Rihanna to hug them both.

Shortly after the clip went viral, social media users flooded the internet with memes.

One meme that stood out compared Rocky’s reaction to a viral moment from last year when a Las Vegas man leaped over a bench to attack a judge after receiving a guilty sentence.

Rihanna took to social media shortly after the not guilty verdict with a message supporting Rocky and thanking God for the decision to keep the rapper out of jail.

The Harlem rapper was charged in August 2022, nearly one year after reportedly shooting his once-friend and former A$AP Mob member, Terrell Epheron, formerly A$AP Relli. On November 6, 2021, Rocky was said to have shot Epheron during a scuffle in Hollywood, with the bullets grazing him in the knuckles.

Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers, previously rejected a plea deal, which offered the rapper 180 days in jail and put him at risk for a maximum sentence of 24 years. Frequently attending the trial was Rocky's partner, Rihanna, with whom he shares two sons, along with his mother, Renee Black, and sister, Erica B.
