David Bowie's last record, Blackstar has been officially declared by Billboard to be his first No. 1 record. The singer, who passed away after a private, 18-month long battle with cancer on Jan. 18th, managed to sell the equivalent of 181,000 copies of his 27th studio album pushing it all the way to the top of the charts. In addition to the success of Blackstar, Billboard also noted that Bowie logged nine other records in the Top-200 including his greatest hits collection Best of Bowie which reached No. 4 and his magnus opus The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, which hit No. 21.
The outpouring of love and support for Bowie in the wake of his passing has been immense and wide-ranging. From live performances to shout-outs on social media, it's become glaringly clear just how influential the singer was, not just in the field of music, but also in film, television, and the fashion and art worlds.
