Bruce Springsteen kicked off his new The Ties That Bind tour in Pittsburgh last night and after a nearly two-hour long full performance of one of his greatest albums The River, the singer took a moment to pay tribute to his friend and peer, David Bowie who passed away on January 10th. "Want to take a moment to just note the passing of our good friend David Bowie,"Springsteen said. "I don't know if people know it, but he supported our music way way back in the very beginning in 1973."

Springsteen concluded the tribute with an anecdote about visiting Bowie in Philadelphia while he was making his record Young Americans before simply adding that "we're thinking of him." With that, he and the rest of the E Street Band launched into a fiery rendition of the Diamond Dogs single "Rebel Rebel." Check out the emotional clip above.
