Wiz Khalifa recalled the time he became the target of aTwitter rant from the artist formerly known as Kanye West.
The Pittsburgh rapper chatted with Benny Blanco and Lil Dicky for their Friends Keep Secrets podcast, where he was asked about the infamous tweet. Back in January 2016, he told Ye to, “Hit this kk and become yourself” when Wiz felt like Ye was biting Max B. Ye didn’t take it well.
“[Ye] was making an album, and he was going to call it Waves,” Khalifa said at the 16:20 minute mark. “I publicly said that nobody should be making an album called Waves because Max B is in jail, and that's his word. And I was like, 'Nobody was fucking with Max B. Don't make an album called Waves… Acknowledge him, don't take his fucking word and try to revolutionize it.’” [Max B himself, it turns out, was actually flattered.]
“So [Ye] got mad at me, which he should have because I was coming at him,” Khalifa continued. “He said something on Twitter and I was like, ‘Just hit the KK and relax.’ And he was like, ‘Don't ever disrespect my wife, blah, blah, blah,’” apparently thinking Wiz was referencing Ye’s wife at the time, Kim Kardashian.
“And I was like, ‘KK is Khalifa Kush. It's weed, fool. Just relax.’ And then everybody just went crazy after that because he went on a whole rant,” Khalifa added, saying that “nobody” ever referred to Kim as KK.
Ye’s rant encompassed 27 tweets in which he slammed Khalifa, Amber Rose, and their son, Sebastian, who was two years old at the time. Among his jabs, West told Khalifa, “No one I know has ever listened to one of your albums all the way through.” He also called Rose a “stripper.”
Those comments came after Khalifa put Ye on blast when he announced he wanted to change the title of his album from Swish to Waves. When Khalifa caught wind of Ye’s news, he made sure Ye knew that Max B was the one who popularized the word through his Wave movement in the mid-2000s.
“Max B is the wavy one. He created the wave. There is no wave without him,” Khalifa tweeted.
It should be noted that West did give Max B a shout-out after his exchange with Khalifa. While Ye didn’t name his 2016 album Waves, instead calling it The Life of Pablo, he did title his Chris Brown- and Kid Cudi-featuring song “Waves.”
In 2009, Max B was sentenced to 75 years for armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and murder. In 2016, his conviction was vacated, and the sentence was reduced to 20 years; he was released from prison in November 2025.
Rose likely became the subject of Ye’s ire because the two are exes, having dated from 2008 to 2010. He started dating Kim in 2012, and the pair were married from 2014 until their divorce in 2022, during which they welcomed four kids. After Rose and Ye broke up, she started dating Khalifa in 2011. They married and welcomed their son in 2013, then divorced in 2016.
