Lizzo is chiming in on the Nicki Minaj MAGA discourse.
The “Truth Hurts” singer responded to a follower on TikTok, who asked how Lizzo feels about Minaj. Lizzo says she “isn’t surprised” at the direction Nicki has gone in, following the Pink Friday rapper’s appearance at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest alongside Erika Kirk.
In the since-deleted TikTok, Lizzo began with a disclaimer, explaining that she believes, “Celebrities' opinions of other celebrities [do] not matter,” including Lizzo’s own opinion.
She said the problem extends beyond Minaj and that fans should “not” be “surprised” when they see other celebrities fall in line with her.
“You’re about to see an influx of people who see that it is more profitable and more beneficial to join that side,” Lizzo said. “You’re going to see it. It already started, and it’s going to continue.
“This is Trump’s first year as president. We got three more years of people who are going to surprise you, and it’s going to hurt your feelings. It’s gonna disappoint you.” She continued, “There’s money behind everything. There are privileges behind every move that people in these positions make. And I’m not surprised.”
On Sunday, Minaj made a surprise appearance at the Turning Point USA AmericaFest, where she was a guest for a Q&A session with Turning Point CEO Erika Kirk, held in Phoenix, Arizona. Minaj spoke about her involvement in politics, slammed Gavin Newsom, showed her respect for President Donald Trump and JD Vance, and touched on last month’s speech at the United Nations, in which she made claims about the persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
