Amerie is now officially divorced, and details about her income have come to light through court proceedings related to the separation.
Court documents obtained by TMZ indicate that the singer may not be in the best financial position, with her estimated monthly income being $5,735, while her ex-husband, music executive Lenny Nicholson, has a listed monthly income of $10,000.
Additionally, the legal docs show that the former couple doesn’t jointly own real estate or share bank accounts. Amerie was given primary custody of their only son, with Nicholson ordered to pay $2,298 and given limited parenting rights.
She will also retain ownership of her music businesses: Amerie Inc., Cer One Touring, and Mi Suk Publishing, as well as a 2016 Range Rover. The judge directed Nicholson to surrender Amerie's TV tracks and external hard drive, which hold her music files.
News of Amerie’s divorce arrived last summer, when the 46-year-old filed the petition. At the time, she revealed that she and Nicholson had been separated since April 2024 after marrying in 2011. During that time, they welcomed their 8-year-old son, River Rowe.
Nicholson responded by claiming that he wasn’t properly compensated over the last 20 years, during which he said he acted as Amerie's manager, tour producer, performance director, and business strategist. He further claimed he was owed royalties from her music, merchandise, and book publishing.
He accused Amerie of abandoning their home in 2024 while he was on the mend from surgery, adding that he had to cover the rent by himself, which amounted to $44,000, as well as other expenses.
He alleged that his ex spent $20,000 on cosmetic surgery and traveled to Mexico and Jamaica. He also claimed that Amerie returned to her music career after leaving him and used his 18-week marketing plan without crediting him.
In his filing, Nicholson sought $1.75 million in unpaid commissions, $150,000 in damages for her verbal attacks and emotional distress, spousal support, and more.
