Hear Pusha-T’s Remix of HBO's 'Succession' Theme Song

Pusha-T and composer Nick Britell have joined forces on “Puppets,” a remix of HBO’s Succession theme song.

King Push announced the collaborative record via Instagram last week, after binge watching the series’ entire first season and finding commonalities between himself and Succession’s main character, Logan Roy.

“The greed, the resentment, the idea anybody is basically disposable— that’s a gangsta movie type of quality,” Push told Vulture about the comedy-drama. “On Succession, it’s involving family, it’s like, Whoa! It’s a bit more shocking. And so that’s what made the writing process fun, because I could use all of the street, gangster rap nuances and qualities and energy and incorporate it into the theme of the music. It was really just a dope exercise, honestly."

The Succession theme song recently earned Britell an Emmy for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music. The NYC-born composer said there were a number of artists who were in consideration for the remix, but he admits his mind was set on Push.

“There was only one person on the list of people to reach out to. Of course it had to be Pusha,” he told Vulture. “There was no backup, there was no plan B … Pusha’s voice is like a missile!”

"If I was going to collaborate with anyone on this track, PUSHA-T was the dream choice," Britell reiterated. "His lyrical instincts are phenomenal, and his artistry is beyond compare."
