A family tragedy has forced Big Freedia to cancel her upcoming shows.

The famed bounce performer and reality TV star went to social media Thursday morning to announce the fatal shooting of her 35-year-old brother, Adam Ross. Freedia expressed her grief over the loss in a series of Instagram posts:

According to the New Orleans Advocate, the shooting occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in New Orleans. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Ross lying unresponsive on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities are still searching for a suspect and a motive.

In a statement released by her attorney, Freedia announced she would cancel her performances set for this weekend, including a Friday show at Blue Nile in New Orleans.

“My younger brother, Adam Ross, was fatally shot last night in a senseless act of violence in New Orleans,” she said. “As the magnitude of this situation sinks in, I am canceling any shows this weekend (Jan 26-28). Thank you for understanding this very difficult time for me and my family. We are truly heartbroken.”

Police have not released any additional details about Ross’ murder. Those with information about the shooting are asked to contact NOPD homicide detective Michael Pluikis at 504-658-5300.
