Brandy has another No. 1 to add to her résumé. Just over a week after its release, the singer and actress’s memoir PHASES has reached the top of the New York Times nonfiction bestseller list.
Brandy shared the news on social media, thanking readers for embracing the book and its personal stories. “My heart is so full,” she wrote. “Writing this memoir meant facing some of my deepest truths, my earliest struggles, and the moments that shaped my growth.”
She added that revisiting those experiences was difficult at times but ultimately healing.
The success of PHASES marks a new chapter for Brandy, whose career has already included chart-topping albums, hit singles, television roles, and film appearances. The memoir traces her path from childhood in McComb, Mississippi, to becoming one of the most recognizable figures in R&B and television during the 1990s.
It also explores the more complicated moments that accompanied that rise, including struggles with fame, heartbreak, family dynamics, and the pressures of growing up in the spotlight.
Several passages from the book have already generated widespread discussion.
In the memoir, Brandy writes that she now believes the relationship crossed a line. “The shame ends here. The silence ends here,” she writes.
Brandy pushed back on that characterization, saying their relationship was strictly platonic and that the renewed conversation was one reason she wanted to tell her story herself.
“It’s time to tell my truth,” she said while promoting the memoir.
The strong response to PHASES comes during a particularly busy stretch for Brandy. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where she reflected on becoming “a little girl with a big dream” who eventually saw those dreams come true.
She is also preparing to perform at Essence Fest 2026 alongside Monica, Kehlani, and Patti LaBelle, with Teyana Taylor leading the event’s creative direction.
