Zohran Mamdani Says He Likes Listening to Lil Wayne, Kim Petras, and Madonna in the Morning

The mayor-elect of New York City said he'll listen to these artists as early as 8 am, while his wife prefers calmer music in the morning.

New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, who will assume office on New Year’s Day, has revealed that Lil Wayne is part of his morning routine.

In a conversation with Interview Magazine editor-in-chief Mel Ottenberg, the Democratic-Socialist was asked about his morning routine, which includes reading through the news and any plans he has that day. Asked what his fuel for “especially tough days” is, he said he allows himself one sugar-free Red Bull a week. He also shared that he has a playlist for some of these mornings.

“I have a few songs,” he shared. “My wife prefers calmer music in the morning. I, for some reason, want to listen to Kim Petras or Lil Wayne or Madonna. … At eight in the morning, it doesn’t make much sense.”

Ottenberg noted that Petras was in the last issue of Interview, and Mamdani added, “‘Like Your Look’ is a great song.”

While Weezy hasn’t responded to the shout-out from Mamdani, German singer-songwriter Kim Petras has. Alongside a screenshot of the interview, she wrote, “Zohran Mamdani I am willing to privately send you my new album if we can get the horse carriages banned from Central Park.”

Mamdani, who campaigned on a platform of making NYC more affordable, has received a lot of support from the music industry. Ja Rule, for one, appreciated him walking out to “New York” after winning the mayoral election. He was also greeted with open arms at the Wu-Tang Clan’s final NYC show at Madison Square Garden, also taking the time to speak with supporting acts Run The Jewels and the Lox.

One person who is not a fan, however, is 50 Cent, who has repeatedly criticized Mamdani’s tax policies. When he won the election, Fif, who had previously shown support for Trump, wrote on Instagram, “New York is over pack it up, let’s go!”
