Zayn Malik has abruptly cancelled the U.S. dates on his upcoming tour in support of his latest record, Konnakol.
In a message shared on his Instagram Story, the former One Direction member apologized to his fans for cancelling all of the U.S. dates for the tour.
“To my fans: Thank you so much for all the support and love you’ve shown me on the album release and more importantly your love, prayers, and well wishes for my health. I’ve felt it, and it’s meant the world. I’ve been at home recovering and I’m doing well and will be better and stronger than before,” wrote Malik, who was hospitalized for an unspecified illness last month.
He said that he “had to take another look” at his schedule for the next few months, and felt he had to “reduce the number of shows” for the tour. “I want to make sure I still get out and see as many of you as I possibly can,” he continued. “I’m really looking forward to playing these shows for you, and I hope to see the rest of you around the world very soon. Big Love, Z.”
The Live Nation-produced tour was originally scheduled to kick off on May 12 and run for 31 dates, but it will now start on May 23 with a show in London and last for just nine shows. Starting in July, Malik was tapped to play 20 shows in different cities across the United States, but now he won’t perform a single show Stateside unless he announces a rescheduling. Other dates cancelled include shows in Dublin, Ireland, and Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Outside of the two scheduled concerts in England, Malik is still expected to perform three shows in Mexico, and one each in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and Peru later this year.
Following the release of his latest album, Malik revealed that he had been hospitalized. Family members requested that fans stop sending him flowers to show their support, and asked them to donate to the Palestine Project on behalf of the pop star, instead. He’s mostly kept a low profile since he was hospitalized and was also forced to cancel an album listening and Q&A event last month, which he said left him “heartbroken.”
