The Weeknd was planning to make a big announcement on Thursday, but the Dawn FM musician has postponed the news on account of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

On Wednesday, the Weeknd teased something big on Thursday. “It’s finally here ! It’s time .. TOMORROW !!!” he tweeted.

Later that night he shared a tweet that simply read, “LET’S GOOOOOOOO.”

Around the same time, Vladimir Putin announced Russia would begin a “military operation” in Ukraine, which by all accounts was a declaration of war.

People were quick to highlight the awkward timing of the Weeknd’s original “Let’s go” tweet

After he presumably caught wind of what was happening in Europe, the Weeknd tweeted that he was postponing his announcement. “Unfortunately I’m just now seeing what’s happening with the conflict and will pause on tomorrow’s announcement,” he wrote. “I pray for everyone’s safety.”

While some fans were disappointed by the decision to delay the announcement, others thanked him for the move.

The Weeknd is still set to debut The Dawn FM Experience, a music special inspired by the album, on Prime Video this Saturday, Feb. 26.
