Prince Estate Announces 'Originals' Album Featuring Tracks He Wrote for Other Artists

Throughout his prolific career, Prince made a name for himself not just as a talented musician in his own right, but also a brilliant writer when it comes to other artists, too. Just in time for what would have been the Minneapolis legend's 61st birthday, his estate has announced that they'll be releasing a new album with Warner Bros. featuring songs he wrote for other performers.

Originals is a 15-track release featuring 14 previously unreleased songs by Prince, and it's due for release June 7. The tracklist is comprised of songs he recorded and eventually gave to other acts, such as "Manic Monday," and "Nothing Compares 2 U" among others. Originals will first be available on TIDAL for 14 days before arriving on other streaming services. The physical release will arrive on June 21, with a special vinyl addition coming July 19.

"In the spirit of sharing Prince’s music with his fans as he wanted, the album will be available to stream in Master quality via Tidal’s HiFi subscription tier," a press release reads. "Members will be able to hear the recordings just as the Artist intended the tracks to sound." The selection of songs was chosen by Troy Carter on behalf of the Prince Estate, and JAY-Z.

In other Prince news, the Blast reports that the late musician's family was denied a request for more control over his estate. His heirs complained that Comerica Bank, the administrator of his estate, recently spent $45 million on estate costs. The Minnesota judge ruled that they did not have enough evidence to back up their claims.
