In an interview with Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco on their podcast Friends Keep Secrets, Kevin Gates broke down why he decided to practice semen retention following a period in which he watched a lot of pornography.
At around the six-minute point of the podcast, which can be seen above, Dicky asked Gates if he’s ever felt sexually insecure. “Yeah… I used to watch a lot of porn, [and] it’ll make you feel insecure,” Gates replied. “This like, before I went on my semen retention journey. I developed an insecurity with that until I realized how scared your masculinity is. I realize how sacred semen retention is.”
Asked to explain what semen retention is, he said it’s about not “releasing.” He said that one of his techniques is squeezing his perineum, which he affectionately referred to as “the gooch.”
“You work the pelvic floor… When you squeeze that, it sends the energy up,” he continued. “Once I refrained from watching porn and I realized the intimacy was sacred between me and my partner, that’s when I realized, like, that’s true intimacy. To know a person. Like, even praying before you have sex with your partner, that’s intimate to me.”
He also claimed that “masturbation leads to depression,” and said that he doesn’t do it anymore. “When was the last time you beat your dick?” Blanco asked. “I was a teenager,” Gates replied. “If you wasn’t ashamed of what you was doing, why don’t you do it openly in front of everybody? You hide and you do it.” Blanco interjected, “Isn’t that illegal?”
He said that he was told by someone that masturbation was similar to “self-mutilation,” and he maintains that there are “other ways to stimulate yourself.”
“You could take that same energy, that sexual energy, and go work out,” said Gates. “It’s sexual transmutation; you could put that energy in other places. Like, with all due respect, when I walked in the room, when y’all met me, y’all felt my aura. Your sexual, it’s your truth. … Now, when I do release, I’m going to release in my wife.”
Later in the interview, around the 33-minute point, Gates asked Blanco and Dicky if they like being the little spoon when spooning with their partners, and he was thrilled when they said they loved it. He was also asked about the time he claimed he started a car with his bare hands. “I ain’t tell you the real secret,” he said, before joking, “Put my dick on a battery.” But then he clarified, “Maybe one of the wires was loose or something. … Weird shit happen to me all the time!”
