The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) received over 100 complaints about Kendrick Lamar's performance at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, some of which mentioned Drake.
As reported by TMZ, the K Dot performance last month received a total of 125 complaints, with many of the people upset mentioning inappropriate lyrics and dancing as the key reasons behind their complaints. Others accused the show of featuring anti-American themes, and some criticized the decision to feature only Black performers. At least ten of the complaints received by the FCC mentioned being disappointed that Kendrick Lamar used the performance to further his beef with Drake, with one complaint calling it a "personal vendetta."
"Kendrick Lamar made fake false and scandalous claims that are unfounded," read one complaint, which called into question some of the lyrics from K Dot's huge, Grammy Award-winning diss record "Not Like Us." "He [said] Drake was a pedophile on TV in front of [a] million ... [people], do better, this is a sad day."
Curiously, one of the complaints singled out Serena Williams, who showed up for a cameo during the performance. The person who complained about her accused her of promoting "gang affiliation."
Despite the high number of complaints, it's actually comparatively low considering that over 133.5 million people tuned into the show when it aired live. In addition to that, the 2025 halftime show got a total of 3.65 billion views, including 1.7 billion from user-generated content. Rihanna's show in 2024 got fewer complaints, roughly around 100, while Jennifer Lopez and Shakira's 2020 show got over 1,300 complaints.
