In January Kanye West filed a lawsuit against Roc-A-Fella Records and EMI Publishing, with later reports stating a provision in his contract with the latter says that he's not allowed to retire from music. His publishing contract with EMI states that West will "remain actively involved in writing, recording and producing Compositions and Major Label Albums, as Your principle occupation." It also stressed that he must "at no time during the Term" initiate a retirement. The Blast reports he's now wanting to put the legal battle to the side so that it can be settled in private.

In newly obtained court documents filed by both Kanye and EMI, they have stated they don't want to continue the lawsuit because “they wish to explore the potential for a resolution of this action, and believe a stay would benefit the parties and the Court by enabling the parties to engage in meaningful discussions in an attempt to resolve this action without having to incur the burden and expense of litigation and motion practice.”

Right now, they're both requesting a 60-day extension while they figure it all out. West initially filed his lawsuit hoping to have his contract with EMI scrapped, so that he can "be set free from its bonds." Yeezy tried to buy out his contract late last year and was denied.
