In an awkward slip-up during an interview at the 2026 Met Gala, Doja Cat caught herself being tongue-tied on the red carpet
In a clip that has since made the rounds online, Doja Cat was interviewed by Vogue at the Met Gala on Monday (May 4) and spoke about her outfit. “This is YSL, I wanted to be all monochromatic skin tone, I wanted to match everything to my skin,” she told La La Anthony. When she was asked what her process for creating memorable Met Gala looks was, she gave an answer that saw her get a little tongue-tied.
“I think we kind of just let our freak f*g—flag fly,” she said, giving a knowing look to the camera to indicate that she was aware of the slip-up, in which she appeared to accidentally use a homophobic slur.
Doja Cat donned a decadent Saint Laurent design at the 2026 Met Gala, showcasing a more reserved and elegant side than she typically has at the event. In previous years, she’s worn feline prosthetic and a wet look T-shirt dress, but this time around she wore a skin-toned silicone dress that played with the ‘Costume Art’ theming.
“I’m excited for this year’s Met Gala because I really love the theme—and I feel like me and my glam [team] have definitely got it in the bag for this one,” she told Vogue, highlighting that she was specifically drawn to Greek statues as inspiration. “I think that the reference we were most connected with was the way fabric draped over the body of a Grecian statue can be so timeless. I really loved the way that this dress draped over my body.”
