Chance the Rapper made his feature movie debut in the pizza-themed horror movie Slice earlier this year, but now he's gearing up to get involved with another film, developing a feature-length musical alongside MGM. The studio has officially announced today that they have acquired the rights to develop a feature musical with Chance entitled Hope, while his manager Pat Corcoran will also be involved alongside Tradecraft's Scott Bernstein.
MGM president Jonathan Glickman made the announcement today. Carlito Rodriguez, who has worked on shows such as The Leftovers and Empire, is set to pen the script for MGM. The music, meanwhile, will be overseen by Nico Segal, fka Donnie Trumpet. Told with original music from Nico and a number of close collaborators, Hope will reportedly follow a group of Chicago teenagers "that band together to turn art into action within their community."
Speaking about the project, Corcoran said, "From day one, our mission at Haight Films' has been to apply Haight Brand's artist-first and Chicago-proud ideology to the film space. We are incredibly excited to be working alongside Chance, MGM and Scott Bernstein to bring this vision to life."
Glickman was particularly glowing about Nico and Chance in his announcement, explaining, “Chance and Nico are undoubtedly two of the most influential and innovative artists of their generation. We feel thrilled, privileged, and eager to be collaborating with them on such a unique project.”
No word on when to expect the movie just yet, but hopefully Chance will make an appearance.
