Cam'ron Breaks Down Jay-Z's Subliminal Diss Directed at Him on "Otis"

Cam'ron said he can't "prove" that the diss is directed at him, but there's a lot of evidence to suggest that it was.

On the latest episode of Talk With Flee, Cam’ron shared that he believes Jay-Z took a shot at him on “Otis,” the lead single from his collaborative album with the artist formerly known as Kanye West, Watch the Throne.

At around the 25-minute mark of the episode, which can be seen in full above, Cam was asked if he had ever heard lines from Hov that he interpreted as a subliminal diss in his direction. “We had said some slick shit about Kanye one time, I forget what it was,” said Cam. “Then Kanye did the song Jay-Z, that first single for the album together.”

Cam struggled to remember the name of the track, but he’s referring to “Otis,” the first single from Watch the Throne.

“I had distribution through Asylum Records at that particular time,” he continued. “That song probably came out a month or two after we said something about Kanye. And he said in the bars… ‘Run up on Yeezy the wrong way I might murk ya / Flee in the G450, I might surface / Political refugee, Asylum can be purchased.’”

Cam conceded that he can’t “prove” that it’s a diss, but that in itself is the nature of a subliminal shot. Regardless of whether it is, in fact, a diss, Cam appeared to take it in stride by laughing it off.

Jay and Cam beefed for years after they both removed featured verses from each other on their own songs. “I’m very, very petty, man,” Cam said on Million Dollaz Worth of Game in 2022. They were ultimately able to squash the beef, and Jay brought out Cam'ron during a show at NYC’s Terminal 5 in 2019.
