Pioneering K-pop act BigBang confirmed during the second weekend of Coachella that they’ll be heading out on a world tour to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a group.
The three-piece—consisting of Taeyang, G-Dragon, and Daesung—addressed the Coachella audience during their set on Sunday (April 19) and also teased that they’re gearing up for a “restart” to coincide with a world tour.
“This is not just our comeback, this is our restart,” Daesung teased.
When G-Dragon spoke to the audience, he said that the 20th anniversary tour is expected to kick off this August. He didn’t offer any further details about the tour, but the last time they toured as a group was in 2017, and they haven’t played in the United States since the Made World Tour in 2015.
BigBang formed all the way back in 2006 as a five-piece, but went on hiatus in 2018. Following the announcement of their hiatus, Seungri withdrew from the group amid the Burning Sun scandal, which ultimately resulted in him being sentenced to three years in prison on embezzlement charges. T.O.P also later left the group, but was scheduled to perform with the other three at Coachella in 2020 before the festival was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s unclear if BigBang is gearing up to release a new record, but they haven’t released an album since Made in 2016. All three of the group’s current members have gone on to have successful solo careers of their own, and G-Dragon released his third solo album, Übermensch, just last year.
