SZA chimed in on the notion that she was caught in the middle of the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

“It was something between two grown-ass men, so why would I insert myself between something between two grown-ass men, you know?” SZA told GQ’s Frazier Tharpe in a new interview. “And I feel like that’s how everybody felt—with the exception of people who didn’t feel that way.

“I didn’t really have any stake, per se. Obviously, I love Kendrick. I’m signed to TDE. That’s my family. Obviously, I’ve known Drake for so long and we have a beautiful rapport. And, obviously, it’s always unfortunate when the unfortunate occurs.”

SZA, who earlier this year co-headlined Dot’s Grand National Tour for its North American and European legs, surprised fans when she performed her Drake collab “Rich Baby Daddy” during the concerts. The track also features Sexyy Red, who infamously chants in the chorus, “Shake that ass for Drake / Now shake that ass for me.”

“Why wouldn’t I?” she said. “‘Poetic Justice’ was in the set list,” she said, referring to Kendrick’s 2012 collab with Drake, “so why wouldn’t I keep ‘Rich Baby Daddy’? I don’t know why I wouldn’t be celebrating some shit that I ate up,” she says with a laugh.

Last month, Drake announced he was appealing his dismissed lawsuit against Universal Music Group over Kendrick’s single "Not Like Us" three weeks after the case was thrown out when a judge ruled the song’s lyrics were not factual statements that used “figurative and hyperbolic language.” You can read more about Drake's lawsuit and his appeal here.
