Lil’ Kim Gets Thanked for L.A. Rain After Monsoon Comments

The rapper faced backlash earlier this month for wishing a monsoon on Los Angeles to extinguish the catastrophic wildfires.

Los Angeles is finally seeing some rain, and some of its residents are thanking Lil’ Kim.

The devastating wildfires in Southern California that broke out last month have killed at least 28 people, destroyed more than 16,000 structures, and torched 76 square miles, according to CBS News.

Lil' Kim, 50, shared her condolences earlier this month on her social media accounts.

“Been sending strong prayers up for LA and everyone affected by the fires," the rapper wrote. "This is heartbreaking. I pray to Jesus that God make it monsoon in LA.”

But her comments weren’t well-received. Kim’s critics argued online that while heavy rain could help extinguish the fires, it could also cause flooding and potentially other issues that would make recovery efforts more difficult for Angelenos.

"What's happening is devastating and what LA really needs right now is rain—so what's the issue?" Kim wrote on X in response to the backlash. "Doesn't everyone understand that a monsoon is heavy rain? I'm so happy to see that everyone is staying so positive during such a tragic situation. Let's keep praying and supporting everyone that has been affected by this."

Rain finally touched down on Southern California on Sunday, with ABC News reporting that the forecast is widespread but light enough to avoid major flooding. Some users on X expressed their gratitude to the “How Many Licks” rapper. See their reactions below.
