Chappell Roan took aim at ICE at her recent Los Angeles-area concert.
On Friday night (Oct. 10), the 27-year-old singer found an opportunity to speak candidly about her love for Los Angeles and to criticize the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The moment took place during her Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things Tour stop at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California
“L.A. is my favorite city in the world, to be honest … In my opinion, Los Angeles is the best city in the world,” Roan told the crowd, as seen in the video linked below, adding that she once lived in Altadena. “I've been living here for 9 years, I'm originally from Missouri and I had a really, really tough time the first five years.”
She continued, “I loved LA more than everything when I saw how the community came together in Altadena to help and seeing with the Palisades.. and I just realized that I'm so lucky to be able to live here and play here and this city has taken care of me and it's only my duty to take care of it back so I just wanna thank you, and that—I don't know, fuck ICE forever. Fuck ICE, yeah.”
Her speech prompted a brief but loud "Fuck ICE" chant from the crowd.
The Grammy winner closed her speech with a final message, “I love you, I love the queer community, thank you for being here.”
In response to her anti-ICE comments, Department of Homeland Security assistant secretary for public affairs Tricia McLaughlin told TMZ, “‘Pink Pony Club’ is good. Pedophiles are bad. That’s who we’re getting off our streets. Get a grip.”
McLaughlin did not offer any data to support her claim. However, as noted by TMZ, a recent Cato Institute study found that 65% of individuals detained by ICE between October 1, 2024 and mid-June 2025 had never committed a crime.
According to the ICE website, the agency was founded in 2003 in response to 9/11, with its mission to “promote homeland security and public safety through the criminal and civil enforcement of federal laws governing border control, customs, trade, and immigration.”
