At long last, new Olivia Rodrigo music is on the way... sort of.

On Thursday, January 8 — five years after the release of her game-changing debut single “Drivers License” — Rodrigo announced a special anniversary vinyl featuring one of her musical inspirations, Talking Heads frontman David Byrne.

On the record, Byrne covers “Drivers License,” while Rodrigo takes on Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House.”

“experience ‘drivers license’ for the first time all over again—this time through the voice of the legendary David Byrne,” reads a description of the record on Rodrigo’s website. “celebrating five years since Olivia’s breakout single, this limited first pressing vinyl features Byrne’s cover of 'drivers license' on side a, and Olivia and David’s live performance of 'burning down the house' from Governor’s Ball on side b. pressed on red translucent 7-inch vinyl.”

Rodrigo got her start on the Disney Channel original series Bizaardvark back in 2016. In 2019, she played Nini on Disney+’s original series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Upon the release of “Drivers License” and her debut album Sour — which dropped in May 2021 — Nini went from a main character to a recurring character, as Rodrigo opted to focus on her music career. Perhaps this was a smart move, as she won the Best New Artist award at the at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards in 2022.

Her sophomore album, Guts, dropped in 2023, and featured fan favorites like “Vampire,” “Lacy,” and “Obsessed.”

It’s been nearly three years since Rodrigo dropped a full-length album, and fans have been waiting anxiously. Since 2023, her fanbase has nicknamed her upcoming third album “OR3” on social media. Fans will have to wait just a bit longer for the project.

But in the meantime, those who order the special edition vinyl can look forward to hearing it when it ships on Friday, April 3. In the meantime, Byrne's cover of Drivers License is on streaming platforms now.
