The Grand Geneva resort in Wisconsin is a posh hotel complex located in Lake Geneva, which is a popular vacation destination. Guests frequenting the resort's restaurant were in for a surprise when a raccoon tumbled through the ceiling.
According to NBC Chicago, the "wild raccoon fell through the ceiling of a restaurant at the popular Grand Geneva Resort in Wisconsin" on December 14, bit a guest, and then was "corralled into a room and taken away by wildlife control."
Fox 6 Milwaukee reported that the animal "got loose inside the dining area at Ristorante Brissago and bit a guest." The television station added that "one guest attempted to grab the animal and was bitten."
"It was quite a large raccoon. So he was on it for the 25 minutes I was on the way there as this thing was brawling, scratching, hissing," Matt Snorek with Guaranteed Gone Wildlife Control told Fox 6, which reported that Snorek was called to the scene to help. The television station described the animal as "large and aggressive."
"When it gets brutally cold like it was these last two days, it's not uncommon to get these calls for raccoons going into a structure," he told the station, adding that the wounded guest was taken to the hospital.
There's a video of the raccoon peering through the ceiling tiles. The video was released by the Walworth County Sheriff's Department to local media in Wisconsin.
Lt. Pete Kruger told NBC Chicago that the raccoon landed on a dining room table after falling through ceiling tiles.
"I've never had a call like that," Kruger said to the television station. "This would be unusual."
According to WTMJ-TV, the raccoon "was euthanized and tested for rabies."
Skip Harless, Grand Geneva Resort managing director, told NBC Chicago that "a raccoon entered the building Sunday night. Animal Control was contacted, and the animal was removed. As always, the safety and well-being of our guests is our priority."
