Fatima Bosch, the new Miss Universe, was crowned after a dramatic pageant in which she led a walkout after being called a "dumbhead" by a businessman.
According to The New York Post, she "led a walkout of supermodels" earlier in the pageant after receiving a "viral berating" from a Thai beauty executive.
She is the fourth contestant from Mexico to be crowned Miss Universe, according to The Post. The pageant was also marred by an incident where Miss Jamaica suddenly tumbled off the stage.
The viral incident came when Nawat Itsaragrisil, an executive director of Miss Universe Organization, "called out Bosch for not participating in a social media shoot with the organizing committee," The Post recounted, indicating that he called Bosch a "dumbhead," leading to a "screaming match" caught on video.
The video shows the man chastising her in front of a group of people before saying, "security." At that point, everyone got up to walk out.
“As women, you need to show respect for us. I’m here representing a country, and it’s not my fault that you have problems with my organization,” Bosch said in the video.
"I feel super excited, filled with emotions, with nostalgia, with all the work and everything that was experienced in these weeks of concentration," Bosch wrote on X after being crowned.
"I knew that in that band, in Mexico, I was coming out; I had to come out strong to represent all the women who believed in me and all the people who gave their love and support," she added.
"It was no longer just about coming out for myself, but for all those people who deserve to have a voice and be heard. This is a dream; I think I'm going to process it tomorrow, because right now I'm just enjoying it," she added.
"To all those little Latin girls who are inspired tonight by my story, I would tell them to always believe in themselves, in the beauty of their soul, their voice, and what they are capable of achieving," the post says.
"Never let anyone make them doubt their worth. If a dream reached their heart, it's because they have the capacity to achieve it. The path won't be easy, there will be obstacles, but if they work hard, they will achieve it. I send all of you my love and lots of good vibes."
