On Monday morning, Today Show host Savannah Guthrie revealed some exciting news about a new project she’ll be working on. The news comes as Savannah’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, remains missing.
Savannah revealed that she will be the host of a new game show inspired by the hit puzzle game Wordle.
She sat down alongside Jimmy Fallon, who will be the executive producer of the show, as she made the announcement.
“We’ve been holding in a secret between us for a long time now,” Guthrie hinted, smiling at Fallon.
“I’m so happy it’s you — we were looking for the perfect host for this. We needed someone who looks like they play Wordle, someone who knows how to run a show. We did the pilot, and you were amazing,” Fallon told her.
This will not be Savannah’s first time in this type of role. In 2021, she acted as the guest-host of Jeopardy! for two weeks following the death of Alex Trebek.
While plans for this new show have been in the works since last fall, things had to be put on pause in the wake of the disappearance of Nancy, who was reported missing on February 1, 2026. It is believed that the 84-year-old was abducted from her home in Arizona. Investigators continue to search for answers related to the case.
Savannah took two months off from Today, as she spent time with her family in Arizona.
Savannah thanked Fallon for being understanding as she navigated this extremely difficult time.
“When everything happened with me and my family,” Savannah said on Monday, “they just stopped everything and said, ‘We’ll wait for you.’ Hollywood is, like, a really tough business, and I didn’t expect that. And I just want to say thank you, it means so much to me.”
“Everything is strange right now,” she went on. “It’s strange to get up and do the ‘Today’ show every day, and it’s strange to say that I’m going to do a game show when your heart is broken. Nothing about that has changed, and it’s not easy, but I’m determined to put one foot in front of the other.”
