Yesterday a faction of the Turkish military attempted to overthrow President Recept Tayyip Erdogan's rule in an organized coup, but failed to do so. The chaos that ensued left more than 200 dead and led to the arrest of more than one thousand coup plotters, BBC Newsreports. Now politicians and celebrities have taken to social media to react and voice their opinions.

Former mayor of London Boris Johnson, who was appointed foreign secretary of Britain just a few days ago, shared his thoughts on the coup in a short video, noting that it's "crucial we support the democratic institutions."
South Korean Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon openly condemned the attempt to overthrow the Turkish government, saying that military interference is never the answer.
Swedish singer of Lebanese descent Maher Zain seized the opportunity to voice his concerns regarding the coup.
Debra Messing emerged from wherever she's been to comment on the situation, urging people to be safe.
Desperate Housewives and Teen Wolf star Max Carver offered his prayers to the people in Turkey.
The U.S. embassy in Turkey has issued the following security message for U.S. citizens in reference to Istanbul's Ataturk Airport security.
