Ivanka Trump's Clothing Company Dodges China Tariff

Donald Trump has never been above nepotism. While that fact isn't news, his recent tariff plan includes a small, but significant detail.

President Trump slapped China with a $50 billion tariff on its steel and aluminum industries, according to Splinter News. In March, Trump called for 25 percent tariffs on steel and 10 percent on aluminum. On Tuesday, the most recent tariff proposal included a list of over 1,300 goods from China up for an additional 25 percent tariff.

The list of goods focuses on "electronics, aerospace, and machinery products" rather than toys and clothes, which, the Washington Post reports are based on the "lowest consumer impact."

Meanwhile, there's a convenient benefactor in this economic deal: his daughter. Particularly, Ivanka Trump's clothing line—which took a hit financially following her father's sexual assault comments in October 2016—will be exempt. This is just another case against the First Daughter of the United States as she continues to serve a sketchy role in the White House while still on the Trump Organization's payroll.

China isn't happy about this trading drama, as you'd expect. ThinkProgress reports the country announced they'd enact a counter-tariff worth the same amount of their own against goods produced in the United States. And of course, the Trump administration came back with another threat, targeting $100 billion of Chinese goods.
