Federal prosecutors have decided to not charge any officers involved in the fatal shooting of Alton Sterling, according to the Washington Post.
On Tuesday night, it was reported the Justice Department will reveal the ruling within the next 24 hours; however, neither Sterling’s family nor Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome have received any official confirmation.
“We have not heard nor received an update and are unaware of any charges that may or may not be filed,” Ryan Julison, a spokesman for the Sterling family’s attorneys, told the Post. “We have not received word, nor has the family been given any notice of upcoming updates regarding this case.”
Baton Rouge officers shot and killed Sterling, 37, on July, 5 2016. The tragedy was captured on video, which showed officers ordering the man to the ground, pinning him, and then opening fire. Sterling's death sparked nationwide protests, with many accusing the officers of murdering the man.
