Convicted January 6 rioter and far-right influencer Jake Lang is facing felony charges after prosecutors accused him of threatening to kill Karmelo Anthony, the Texas teenager recently sentenced to 35 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf.
According to CBS News, Lang, whose legal name is Edward Jacob Lang, made terroristic threats that caused public fear and disrupted government operations. Prosecutors reportedly played a livestream in court in which Lang allegedly threatened to "shoot a murder defendant in the head." He was arrested on June 10, initially held on a $1 million bond, and his bond has since been reduced to $250,000. According to Fox 4 News, a Collin County judge has also barred him from entering Texas except for court appearances and meetings with his attorney.
The arrest comes after Lang became a familiar presence outside the Collin County courthouse during Anthony's murder trial. Cameras captured him among protesters surrounding the proceedings, where tensions between supporters of both families frequently boiled over.
Lang's latest legal troubles add to a lengthy rap sheet. The 31-year-old was previously indicted on multiple charges stemming from the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, including assaulting police officers, before receiving a presidential pardon while awaiting trial.
Earlier this month, he was also arrested in Texas on a criminal trespass warrant after authorities said he illegally entered David Kuykendall Stadium, where Austin Metcalf was killed in April 2025.
Anthony's conviction itself came after jurors rejected his self-defense claim and sentenced him to 35 years in prison for stabbing the 17-year-old Memorial High School football player during a confrontation at a rain-delayed track meet. Anthony's attorneys immediately filed a notice of appeal and requested court-appointed counsel, saying he could not afford appellate counsel.
The case has attracted fierce online battles and increasingly inflammatory rhetoric from figures on multiple sides. Anthony's parents have continued to insist that their son acted in self-defense, with his mother saying, "My son is no murderer. My son didn't intend to hurt anyone."
At the same time, Austin's father, Jeffrey Metcalf, has drawn criticism over comments he made during a June 10 livestream appearance with commentator Sarah Fields. Although Fields later argued clips had been taken out of context and said "Jeff Metcalf's story is important, and he deserves to have it heard, in its entirety, without context removed," Metcalf used racially charged language while attacking Anthony and his supporters.
Among other remarks, Metcalf mocked the convicted teenager as a "watermelon felon," declared that "the race card, Black fatigue — it's real," and told viewers, "You have embarrassed your own culture and race."
He also insisted that "from day one, I said this was never about race," even as the livestream became one of the most controversial moments in the aftermath of the verdict.
