There was buzz in mid-March that five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods was gearing up to play in this year’s tournament. The golf legend participated in the TGL finals on March 24, and odds quickly shortened to +150 that he would indeed compete at famed Augusta National in April.
However, just three days after his TGL appearance, Woods was involved in a car accident in which he flipped his Land Rover on its side. Woods was arrested on suspicion of DUI and later pleaded “not guilty.”
Alcohol was not believed to have been involved, but authorities said the golfer had hydrocodone pills in his pocket and showed signs of impairment.
Bodycam footage of Woods’ arrest was released Thursday.
Is Tiger Woods playing in The Masters?
Woods has yet to come right out and say whether or not he will play in this year’s Masters, which starts next Thursday, but it’s highly unlikely at this juncture.
The 50-year-old posted on social media Tuesday night that he is “stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on [his] health.”
Woods is expected to soon enter an unidentified treatment facility outside of the United States.
Tiger Woods Masters odds
Prediction markets now have Woods priced at just 1 cent to play in this year’s Masters, with a less-than 1 percent implied probability.
Prior to the accident, Woods had +20000 odds to win the 2026 Masters.
Was Tiger Woods hurt in the car accident?
Woods was not seriously injured in the March 27 accident despite his vehicle landing on its side. He reportedly crawled out of the passenger’s side to escape the vehicle after the crash.
Who is Tiger Woods’ girlfriend?
Woods is currently dating Vanessa Trump, who is the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr.
TMZ reported this week that Vanessa Trump has been supportive of Woods following the crash and that the couple has no plans to split.
Woods’ accident reportedly “raised some concerns” for Donald Trump Jr., according to PEOPLE. Trump Jr. shares five children with his ex-wife.
Woods and President Trump have been friendly over the years and Trump spoke out about Woods’ accident in a phone interview with the New York Post.
“[Woods] tested negative for alcohol as you know, and he is under a tremendous amount of physical pressure from his various ailments, you know the back and the leg,” Trump said. “He lives a life of pain. He has a lot of pain. He’s an amazing guy. He’s an amazing athlete. He does have pain.”
Trump awarded Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019, after Woods won that year’s Masters.
