The San Antonio Spurs already knew they’d be in the challenge of their basketball lives against the defending NBA champion OKC Thunder. Injuries to two of their top players are now making matters even more difficult. Dylan Harper and De’Aaron Fox are both nursing injuries at the moment, as Harper is dealing with a right adductor injury and Fox is dealing with a high ankle sprain. Below, we will dish out an injury update on both players.
Dylan Harper injury update: Will Spurs guard play tonight in Game 3?
Harper has “right adductor soreness” after leaving Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals with 5:25 left in the third quarter.
The rookie guard was sent to the locker room for examination, but attempted to come back to the San Antonio bench later in the game. While walking to the Spurs bench, Harper was turned around by a member of the Spurs training staff and sent back to the locker room. Harper appeared dejected when told he could not return to the Spurs bench.
Initial reports had Harper having suffered a hamstring injury. Players typically recover from a mild hamstring strain within a few days to 2 weeks.
More recent reports have labeled Harper’s injury as “right adductor soreness.” Adductor muscles are found along the inner thigh.
It appears that Harper suffered a mild adductor strain. The recovery time for such an injury is typically 1-3 weeks.
Harper would surely be on the shelf if tonight’s game was taking place in the regular season, but given that we are at this stage in the NBA postseason an attempt by Harper to tough it out and play through it can’t be ruled out.
Fanatics Sportsbook does have Harper player props available for tonight’s game despite his questionable status. His points Over/Under is 11.5 and his assists O/U is 3.5.
De’Aaron Fox injury update: Will Spurs guard play tonight in Game 3?
Fox will once again be a gametime decision for Game 3 Friday night. He was also a gametime decision for Games 1 and 2, but he ultimately did not play in either contest as he is still dealing with a high ankle sprain. The veteran guard has gone through pre-game workouts the past two games in an attempt to play.
Fox has already shown that he will play through the injury if absolutely necessary. He initially injured the ankle in Game 4 of San Antonio’s Round 2 series against the Timberwolves. Fox finished Game 4 and then played in Game 5 and Game 6 against Minnesota.
“It’s one of those deals where it’s not going away for as long as we’re playing, I don’t believe,” Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson said of Fox’s injury.
Fanatics also has Fox props available for Game 3. Fox’s points Over/Under is 13.5 and his assists O/U is 4.5.
