NBA Trade Rumors: De’Aaron Fox To Magic, Nets Or Heat?

Fox, who was an NBA All-Star this past February, is a great buy-low candidate this summer as his stock plummeted in the NBA Finals.

De’Aaron Fox is the least popular man in South-Central Texas right now, as his brain fart in Game 4 of the Spurs’ crushing loss to the Knicks greatly helped pave the way for New York to ultimately break its decades-long title drought. With the Spurs up one point in the closing seconds of Game 4, Fox grabbed a loose ball. Instead of trying to take valuable seconds off the clock and forcing the Knicks to foul, Fox went in for a layup. It was blocked by OG Anunoby, and we all know what Anunoby did on the other end of the floor moments later.

With Fox’s value at an all-time low, it seems on the surface that no team would be interested in swinging a deal for the two-time NBA All-Star. But, for many savvy GMs in the history of the NBA, this represents a perfect buy-low scenario for a player that averaged 18.6 points and 6.2 assists this season.

Adding some fuel to speculation that the Spurs could move on from Fox is the news that Fox apparently unfollowed the Spurs on Instagram (according to Full Court Pass).

Below, we will take a look at three teams that could be interested in making a move for the 28-year-old.

De’Aaron Fox to Magic?
Expect the Magic and Spurs to be potential trade partners in the next few years as former Spurs associate head coach Sean Sweeney just took the job to lead Orlando’s bench.

Orlando does have a need at point guard to take some of the playmaking and scoring load off of Jalen Suggs.

The Magic may be willing to part with the likes of Franz Wagner this off-season, as the team looks to make Paolo Banchero the centerpiece in its roster re-construction.

De’Aaron Fox to Nets?
The Nets are expected to be active in the trade and free agent markets this summer and the most likely player that they could ship out is Michael Porter Jr.. Porter Jr. will likely become a trade candidate if he and the team cannot agree to contract extension terms, according to HoopsHype’s Mike Scotto.

Porter Jr. has been mentioned as a great fit for the Spurs in the past, given his size and shooting capabilities.

Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez also has a tie to Fox, as Fernandez was associate head coach in Sacramento from 2022-2024. Fox was in Sac-Town for Fernandez’s entire tenure.

De’Aaron Fox to Heat?
Heat president Pat Riley seems intent on making one last blockbuster trade or free agent splash before he calls it a career. Miami has been heavily brought up in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes in recent weeks.

If Giannis is traded, it is expected that multiple teams will get in on the action as part of a multi-team deal to make the financials work. Could the Spurs become a facilitator in a blockbuster in hopes of dumping Fox’s contract?

Riley is in desperate need of an All-Star level creator at point guard, with or without Giannis coming to town, and Fox certainly fits the bill.
