Putting together a Louis Vuitton show is not unlike debuting Tesla's Cybertruck in terms of presenting one's work in the "purest form," Virgil Abloh explained in a newly published interview.

Speaking with How to Spend It in an interview shared on Friday, Abloh—whose 2020 LV menswear Heaven on Earth boasted cloud-assisted surrealism—broke down how his presentation is similar to Elon Musk unveiling the coveted Cybertruck.

"The show is my concept car," he said. "It is my Cybertruck. It isn't about perpetuating a brand name, it is to keep me inspired and present the work in its purest form."

Elsewhere, Abloh spoke on the bizarre bit of timing associated with his installation at the Venice Biennale last year. Venice flooded in late 2019, which Abloh addressed while laying out how crucial our current place in human history is.

"We are at a time in history when we are understanding the human relationship with nature, and the reality of climate change," said Abloh, perhaps hinting at where his work may take us next as society moves through (and hopefully beyond) the COVID-19 era.

The interview also sees Abloh reflecting on furniture design's comparability to painting and sculpture, how his work as an artist is like a public record of his thoughts, and more. Read it here.
