Takashi Murakami, an artist whose prolific output and impact on multiple generations of creativity is unparalleled, has been revealed as a special collaborator with metaverse brand RTFKT.
The link-up is part of RTFKT’s Clone X NFT avatar project and sees familiar Takashi Murakami design touches being brought into the fold.
“I have been very interested in NFTs and their potential, and I happened to come across the RTFKT team’s work on Instagram,” the artist, who launched his first-ever NFT art piece back in March, said in a statement. “We started chatting and came to love each other’s work. I am very excited to work and create with such an innovative team.”
Clone X avatars are billed as top-tier 3D-rigged models, with 3D files being sent to owners to facilitate their use in Zoom meetings and elsewhere. A total of 20,000 avatars will be generated.
“We always try to push things forward, and bringing Murakami, our favorite artist, to work with us on these avatars and share our vision is the biggest thing we could have dreamed of,” a rep for RTFKT said. “Avatars are just the beginning of this revolution that are NFTs.”
