Pharrell Makes History in New Chanel Campaign Video

Chanel decided to make history with its new Gabrielle bag campaign film. The clip marks the first time a man has starred in a Chanel bag campaign, Billboardreported Tuesday. The star in question? None other than frequent Chanel collaborator Pharrell Williams.

The mysterious clip, part of a partnership that was first announced last month, sees the Grammy-winning artist and Oscar-nominated Hidden Figures producer making his way through an empty concert venue before a young child reveals the "Gabrielle" name on the inside of his hand. Previously, the Gabrielle bag was promoted with a campaign film starring Kristen Stewart:

Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld toldWomen's Wear Daily in March that the bag's shape was inspired by virtual reality goggles. Lagerfeld also said the new campaign film with Pharrell was designed to show that the Gabrielle could be worn in "many different circumstances." Pharrell, who walked for the French brand in December, has credited the late Notorious B.I.G. for first introducing him to Chanel more than a decade ago.

Next for Pharrell is a semi-autobiographical musical. Michael Mayer, who directed the hit American Idiot musical based on the Green Day album of the same name, is currently putting together a musical at Fox based on Pharrell's life. The project is currently known as Atlantis and was described by the Hollywood Reporterlast month as a "Romeo and Juliet style story" inspired by the artist's childhood in Virginia Beach. Pharrell is also busy seemingly working on a new Justin Timberlake project with Timbaland.
