In celebration of this week's long-awaited release of Tha Carter V, Lil Wayne is linking up with a veritable assortment of style icons for a run of extremely limited merch.
"First up, Wayne and Bravado have collaborated with Heron Preston for an airbrush-influenced t-shirt featuring a classic line from Wayne's ubiquitous Tha Carter III single "A Milli." Speaking with Highsnobiety Wednesday, Preston said the "goblin" lyric emblazoned on the tee's back served as his starting point when designing the limited-run piece.
"I looked for amateur airbrush artists, and I found a bunch of them on Etsy," Preston said. "I didn't want something that was super polished or professional; I wanted to capture that amateur skill level—which is the same kind of skill level that I saw when looking at old airbrush artwork back in the 90s."
All told, the limited Carter V merch run will include collabs with 14 different brand/designers, including Illegal Civilization and Cactus Plant Flea Market. The Preston design launched Wednesday, while the Illegal Civilization and CPFM arrived Thursday. The Dertbag graphic tee and Advisory Board Crystals hoodie dropped Friday, and the NASASEASONS tee released Tuesday. All subsequent designs will launch daily at 5 p.m. through Oct. 4. Tuesday, we got an apology from Young Money Entertainment president Mack Maine regarding the album's celebrity-assisted release date countdown. "Well after waiting for years we HERE babbbbyyyy!" Maine said. "Thanks for all the prayers and support promise it never went unnoticed or unappreciated."
Though features and a final tracklist haven't yet been unveiled, Wayne didinform fans that the album is comprised of "years of work," which is either a reference to the seven-year gap between Tha Carter IV and Tha Carter V and/or a nod to the different eras represented across the album.
