Did Drake Buy the N.E.R.D. Brain Pendant Chain Recently Featured in Kid Cudi’s Joopiter Auction?

Drake is no stranger to seemingly trolling-inspired jewelry purchases.

Drake, who once boasted of melting down “the chains that I bought from yo’ boss” on Travis Scott’s Utopia track “Meltdown,” appears to be back at it in terms of trolling-minded jewelry purchases. This week, following news of the results of Kid Cudi’s recent auction through the Pharrell-founded JOOPITER platform, an update shared to Drake’s frequently active Finsta showed a photo of what indeed appears to be a key piece from the collection.

Who bought the N.E.R.D. brain pendant previously owned by Kid Cudi?

As seen below, the photo shared to the @plottttwistttttt account on Thursday seemingly shows the same N.E.R.D. brain pendant chain once owned by Cudi, who purchased it during a previous JOOPITER auction. The Jacob & Co. creation, as previously reported, was listed with a final price of $243,750 at the close of Cudi’s auction.

The Man on the Moon artist and MaXXXine executive producer was seen wearing the special piece in public on numerous occasions, as well as in the videos for “Superboy” and “Ill What I Bleed.” In 2023, he was reported to have paid $720,000 for the piece. Drake and Cudi, notably, have had their own issues over the years.

What does this have to do with Travis Scott?

We touched on this above, but a reminder: “Meltdown,” off Utopia, set off a firestorm of speculation upon its release back in 2023, with Drake’s “I melt down the chains that I bought from yo' boss/Give a fuck about all of that heritage shit” lyric taken as another Pusha T-aimed sub. Preceding the release of that track was Drake’s “Jumbotron Shit Poppin” video, which saw him wearing millions of dollars’ worth of jewelry pieces previously owned by Pharrell.

This week, Scott, as seen above, was among those who liked the Drake Finsta post showing the N.E.R.D. pendant.

What else was sold in Kid Cudi’s recent auction?

Among the highlights we ran down earlier this week were two Ben Baller and Takashi Murakami spinning flower pendant chains, a custom BAPE pendant chain, vintage Green Day and Eminem t-shirts, and much more. Take a closer look here.
