The MTV VMA's are one place where anything truly goes—from a style perspective, at least. With a lineup that includes performances and appearances by Kanye West (doing whatever he wants for four minutes), Video Vanguard Award winner Rihanna, Beyonce, and many, many more, you can expect celebs in attendance to either bring their A game or simply go insane. Both options make for some enjoyable viewing from the comfort of our couch. Here's how some of our favorites fared.

Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West

When you're Kim and Kanye, you don't need to reinvent the wheel every time. Your presence on the red carpet—in black and white monochromatic looks (including 'Ye's "Famous" tee)—is a present enough.

2 Chainz

Everybody knows this was the Year of Gucci. 2 Chainz in head-to-toe Alessandro Michele-designed threads only confirms its place as a red carpet must.

Future

All black everything, except for those eye-catching studs, gives Future an edge over the thirstier celebs on the VMA red carpet.

Desiigner

Desiigner chooses extra gold chains and diamonds over a shirt. Given the heat in New York tonight, that's not a bad decision. Bonus points for choosing a salmon Margiela suit.

Jaden Smith

Never let them tell you that you can't wear a cat coat over a sheer T-shirt, Jaden. Promise us that.

Shameik Moore

Yes, it's August. Yes, it's a humid and almost 80 degrees in Manhattan. But if The Get Down actor Shameik Moore is going to add himself to the list of celebrities who don't know how to dress for summer, might as well go all the way in a fur-lined, oversized coat.

Nick Jonas

Hard to blame Nick Jonas for showing up in the red carpet equivalent of what you would wear to run errands on a cool autumn day. Cozy vibes forever.

Beyoncé

Everyone knows the best red carpet accessory is your adorable kid.
