A cult staple in menswear design since 2007, Martine Rose has become a firm favourite in the British fashion sphere. Known for her unconventional approach to presenting collections, as well as her forward-thinking collections, the British-Jamaican designer has explored everything from raves, football culture and bankers to the 1970’s underground gay scene of San Francisco, hyper-masculine notions and sex.

Now, continuing to draw inspiration from her experiences and interest in rave, hip-hop and punk subcultures, Spring/Summer ‘22 sees the designer look at “Carefree Dancing” and “Alive With Pleasure” rave flyers—as well as the airbrush Athena posters of the ‘80s—to debut a surreal lookbook that reflects the Martine Rose character.

Famed illustrator Syd Brak’s 1982 poster, “Long Distance Kiss”, for Athena, informs the designer’s offering of printed satin shirts and trousers, while paint-splashed tracksuits pay homage to the raving uniform of the ‘90s. Further highlights include notched, sliced, and braided football tops, alongside track jackets and reworked short-sleeved shirts.

Get a closer look at some of the selects below and cop the Spring/Summer ‘22 collection via the Martine Rose webstore from the end of January.
