The annual Met Gala took place in New York City Monday night, marking the grand opening of the Costume Institute's fashion exhibit. It's a night where the biggest names in music, movies, and fashion gather for a night of high fashion and luxurious style. Each year, the Met Gala presents its honorary guests with a theme that mimics the Costume Institute exhibit.
The theme for 2018 was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, and everyone from Cardi B to Rihanna and Jaden Smith brought their A-game when it came to this year's looks. With glittering headpieces, cross-embellished lapels, and subtle references to Catholic motifs, the 2018 Met Gala was truly one to be remembered. Take a look at some of our favorite styles from the event.

Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande looked stunning in a custom Vera Wang gown with a long, draping train. Her look went for the more literal interpretation, featuring a heavenly pattern resembling something you might see on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
Migos
Migos showed up dripping in Versace. Their bold suit jackets were a big change from the sleek, all-black memo they stuck to at last year's Met Gala, but this year's look gave us more of that flair we've come to expect from the fashionable rappers. And of course, each member was adorned in a stack of glimmering chains and silver jewelry to add to the look.
SZA
SZA arrived at the Met in a gorgeous blush pink Versace dress. The plunging, beaded bodice and matching thigh-high boots pulled the look together, and a saintly headpiece had her looking like a true ethereal goddess. Perfection.
Rihanna
Rihanna arrived looking pious in a Mason Margiela dress and accompanying jacket. The regal ensemble was custom-made by John Galliano and featured an intensely bejeweled papal tiara. We can always count on Rihanna to bring fashion excellence, and last night was no exception.
Michael B. Jordan
Michael B. Jordan opted for a toned down, but equally stylish look from Off-White. Though he kept things pretty reserved as far as the theme, he did accent the lapel of his striped suit with a small, silver cross.
Zendaya
Zendaya truly encapsulated the essence of 2018's theme (and was my personal favorite look of the night). She rocked a stunning Atelier Versace gown inspired by Joan of Arc. The chain metal-looking gown draped beautifully accenting her silhouette nicely, and the armor-inspired neck and shoulder piece tied together the image. She even rocked the short hair/bangs combo depicted in classic artists' renditions of Joan of Arc.
Cardi B
Cardi B was looking divine in some beautifully hand-crafted Moschino designed by Jeremy Scott who accompanied her to the Gala. Before her grand entrance, she explained how much detail went into her gown, nails, and headpiece. She pointed out the tiny gems that adorned her long gloves, saying, "These are tiny pearls."
Donald Glover
Donald Glover arrived wearing a custom Gucci mauve wool tuxedo with black grosgrain lapel and golden eye embroidery with a white ruffle pleated evening shirt. His look wasn't particularly on-theme, but he was really rocking that mauve tux.
Jennifer Lopez
J.Lo stepped onto the scene wearing a darkly extravagant gown by Balmain, accompanied by her boo Alex Rodriguez. The gown took a different direction from some of the other white and light-colored garments that were seen at the Gala, featuring darker colors like red, black, and blue. The mile-high slit and her slicked back hair gave off a fierceness that wasn't seen in many other looks.
Diddy
Musika Frère created Diddy's Met Ball look that was inspired by the traditional clerical robes of the Pope. His look was pristinely white, accented only by some impressive silver jewelry.
Solange
Although Beyoncé opted out of this year's Met Gala, sister Solange attended wearing a bold Iris Van Herpen ensemble. She made a statement sporting a black durag that was emblazoned with the phrase: "My God Wears a Durag" along with a dainty gold halo headpiece.
2 Chainz
2 Chainz really made a statement this year, and not just for his bold Versace look. The Atlanta rapper got down on one knee to propose to longtime partner Kesha Ward as guests were still arriving to the Gala. It was a special moment that's sure to be an amazing memory for the couple.
Kim Kardashian
Kim K arrived sans Kanye wearing a slinky, gold custom Versace gown that looked stunning.
Jaden Smith
As a true icon living, Jaden Smith showed up to the Met Gala draped in Louis Vuitton accompanied by his own gold plaque for the single "Icon."
Dapper Dan
Dapper Dan brightened the room in his yellow custom Gucci tuxedo jacket paired with black evening trousers with bee jacquard trim and black patent leather brogues. He completed his look with a pair of Gucci-Dapper Dan black crystal sunglasses.
Lana Del Rey and Jared Leto
After a hiatus from the Met Gala since 2015, Lana Del Rey was back this year. She arrived alongside Jared Leto and Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michelle in a look that knocked it out of the park. She wore a custom Gucci long sleeve lace gown inspired by Our Lady of Sorrows. The bodice was embellished with the Seven Sorrows of Mary with initials "LDR" at the center of the golden heart. A custom headpiece was also adorned with painted blue and white feathers adding to the heavenly vibe.
Leto pulled up looking like the second coming of Jesus. He also wore custom Gucci, in a silk suit offset with a blue velvet lapel featuring three-eyed golden angels.
Chadwick Boseman
Looking like a true king, Chadwick Boseman styled a regal-looking white Versace suit that was adorned with gold crosses and accents. The gold shoes were the final detail that elevated this eye-catching look.
