If someone had told you that Travis Scott’s highly-publicized collaboration with McDonald’s would have resulted in a merch capsule of over 100 items released across three days, would you have believed them? Well, that’s exactly what was served to the masses.
Sure, the Travis Scott Meal itself is nothing more than a Quarter Pounder combo with a side of barbecue sauce. It didn’t come with the plastic La Flame toy featured in the commercial in classic Happy Meal fashion like many speculated. There wasn’t a Cactus Jack logo stamped on the bag or cardboard packaging of the $6 combo either. But the extensive amount of merch, very well-executed merch at that, more than made up for the lack of experience provided by Golden Arches locations across the country.
There were plenty of things to choose from–T-shirts, hoodies, meal trays, and even cardboard cutouts –but some easily stood out among the rest. Check out our picks for the top 10 best items from the Travis Scott x McDonald's collection below.
10.McNugget Body Pillow
To be honest, I still have no idea why this exists. I have no idea why you would want to own this. But the giant Chicken McNugget body pillow instantly became a meme upon its release. It’s incredibly absurd, but it’s certainly the first time I’ve seen a major artist sell a food-shaped pillow, and the thought of seeing people post photos with these when they receive them in a few weeks is hilarious. It kicks off the list for those reasons.
9.Sticker Bomb Hoodie
This hoodie is another example of the Cactus Jack team leaving no stone unturned when it came to finding inspiration from the McDonald’s archive for this merch collection. This brown hoodie (of course it’s brown) is covered in various flips of logo stickers that will be familiar to any Mickey D’s patron. It's the sticker that holds the wrapping paper in place on their McDouble or McChicken when they pull it out of the bag.
8.'I'm Lovin' it' Lunch Tray
While there was plenty of apparel to choose from, the accessories are arguably the best part of the various McDonald’s x Travis Scott merch drops. The lunch tray was one of the best. Sure, you don’t really NEED a brown plastic tray etched with “I’m Lovin' it,” but if you have ever dined inside a McDonald’s then the tray holds a bit of nostalgia. And that’s the best part of all this stuff anyway, right?
7.Sesame III T-shirt 'Brown'
Unlike some of the other more novel graphic T-shirts that released across each of the three merch drops, this one gets points for its wearability. The simple Cactus Jack logo flip at the center of the chest gives it a classic streetwear feel. The large Cactus Jack logo on the back made up of sesame seeds is a playful nod to the fast food chain without getting too crazy. Fans will also appreciate this one for its brown colorway that has become a signature color for the rapper. Travis Scott's been wearing it regularly as of late too.
6.'Billions Served' Work Jacket
The Cactus Pack didn’t just feature T-shirts and collectibles. There were also cut and sew offerings, believe it or not. This work jacket was a clear highlight with the fast food chain’s “Billions and Billions Served” embroidered across the back making for a cool detail. Fall weather appears to be here to stay in certain parts of the country, which means you’ll be getting some practical use out of this one for the next few months.
5.Apple Pie T-shirt
If you’ve been a fan of Travis Scott for the past few years then you have to appreciate this design, which cleverly nods to the opening line of Rodeo standout “Apple Pie” with the phrase “Always Had a Thing for Sweets” printed on the back. Referencing a song from 2015 with McDonald’s popular dessert is just an expert level decision. It also made for a cool Easter egg for loyal fans because there were at least a few people who probably didn’t catch the reference.
4.Cactus Pack Vintage Blanket
If you couldn’t fathom having to explain to house guests why there is a giant McNugget on the couch in your apartment, then maybe you opted for this throw blanket instead. Perfect for staying cozy on your next Zoom call or being hung on the wall like a poster if you’re into that sort of thing. This was another highlight from the wide range of accessories. Simply put, it’s just a well done graphic inspired by vintage McDonald’s advertisements.
3.Action Figure Lifesize Cut-out
Sure, a Travis Scott Happy Meal toy was never actually released (I still need answers), but there was this awesome life size cut-out. This is another item that only the biggest Travis Scott fans, or collectors, would actually want displayed in their home. But it’s another clever way that Cactus Jack used the McDonald’s IP to its advantage when creating this stuff.
2.CPFM for CJ Burger Mouth T-shirt
The third and final drop from the Travis Scott x McDonald’s collection included a collaborative capsule designed by one of the most popular brands at the moment, Cactus Plant Flea Market. Crewnecks covered with a full commercial script, rugs, and totes were all up for grabs, but the Burger Mouth T-shirt was a highlight. The front was emblazoned with a burger-eating Travis Scott head drawn in CPFM’s signature style, while puff print lettering can be seen on the back. It was also cool to see CPFM work in an official capacity with Scott, a longtime supporter, and one of the world’s biggest brands. Like most CPFM drops, don’t be surprised if this one's value skyrockets in the future.
1.Cactus Jack All-American Basketball Jersey
If you’re a basketball fan then you know how huge the McDonald’s All-American Game is. So it’s awesome that Travis Scott, a sports fan himself, was able to pay homage to the annual high school showcase. It shows that there is an extra level of attention to detail from Scott and his team when putting together these collections—rather than simply slapping some logos on T-shirts and calling it a day. There were matching shorts and some additional apparel, but the jersey is easily the best of the bunch.
