When it comes to making bootleg T-shirts worn by some of the world's most influential creatives, the New York City-based artist Shirt has certainly upped the ante. After presenting an exhibition with Abrons Arts Center this season, Shirt's latest work recreates a T-shirt worn by the famous German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans. Surprisingly, Tillmans has co-signed the bootleg. He shared the story behind the multi-brand T-shirt in a comment on the artist's Instagram post. It was "a design from a professor and students (Class of Heiner Blum) at Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach in Germany circa 2005-2008. They gave me a few samples when I was teaching at Staedelschule Frankfurt nearby. They never tried to launch it commercially for obvious reasons. But it's perfect for bootlegging. I would like to buy one." This intriguing graphic T-shirt is still available on Shirt's web store along with similar bootlegs that riff off famous T-shirts worn by designers like Virgil Abloh.
