While conducting express-consignment operations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers recently seized more than half a million dollars worth of counterfeit designer jewelry. The seizure took place in Louisville, Ky., when law enforcement confiscated over 1,100 knock-off pieces with an estimated retail price of $562,729.
“CBP is committed to enforcing trade laws at our ports of entry, protect our nation’s revenue and identifying individuals who brazenly attempt to import counterfeit merchandise into the United States,” Area Port Director Marc Hurteau said in a CBP press release.
According to the CBP website, the largest counterfeit bust for this area took place in January of this year, when over $12 million of fake NFL merchandise was confiscated in Operation SuperFake.
As we reported earlier this week, it can often be difficult for U.S. officials to crack down on counterfeit schemes due to the large and complex operations. But we’re glad not everything is slipping through the cracks. Let’s just hope others will take this as a warning.
